Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Vanity ("Vanity," "we," "us") runs a dating app built around fewer, better options and a transparent matching algorithm. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using Vanity you agree to this policy. Vanity is for people 18 and older.
1. Information we collect
- Account & verification. Your phone number (used to sign in via one-time code) and, where offered, information you submit to verify your identity (ID verification). We store a verification status, not your raw ID document, longer than needed to verify.
- Profile. Name, date of birth, gender and self-described gender modality, who you're seeking, relationship goal, bio, height, nationality/place of birth, languages, and your photos.
- Location. With your permission, your device location, which we turn into an approximate local "market" to show you people nearby. You can decline; some features won't work without it.
- Preferences. Your match filters (age range, distance, and premium filters like height/nationality), and whether you opt to see trans matches.
- Messages & activity. The messages you send in chats, who you keep, block, report, or commend, and which profiles you've been shown (so we don't repeat them).
- Device & usage. Basic technical data (app version, device type, language) needed to run and secure the service.
2. How we use your information
- To create your profile and place you in the right local market.
- To build your weekly slate using the open matching algorithm. The rules are the same for everyone and you can see why each person appears.
- To enable chat for the week and apply your "keep one" choices.
- For safety and integrity: verification, blocking, and reviewing reports.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Matching, honesty, and your preferences
Vanity is preference-based and symmetric. People self-describe (including gender modality), and you filter by your own preferences. These choices shape who appears on your slate; they never remove anyone from the platform. Reports are reviewed by us and are not shown to the person reported.
4. Sharing
We share personal information only with:
- Service providers who help us run the app (e.g. cloud hosting, SMS delivery, image storage) under contracts that limit their use of your data.
- Other users, limited to what your profile shows and the messages you send.
- Legal recipients when required by law or to protect users' safety.
5. Retention & ephemerality
Connections on Vanity are time-boxed by design. At the end of each weekly round, conversations you don't keep enter a short grace window and then archive; kept conversations carry over. We retain account and profile data while your account is active, and delete or de-identify it after you delete your account, except where we must keep limited records for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention reasons.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit most data in the app, manage location permission in your device settings, and delete your account. To exercise other rights, contact us below.
Note: some fields are intentionally limited — for example, your date of birth can be changed only once after your profile is created.
7. Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data (for example, phone codes and access tokens are stored hashed, and images are served from dedicated storage). No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to it.
8. International transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Children
Vanity is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors and will delete it if we learn we have.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We'll revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app.
